New Minimum Wage Rates Now in Effect in 21 States

With a new year comes new minimum wage rates -- and not only in Colorado. As of January 1, 2020, the minimum wage also increased in the following states: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, South Dakota, Vermont, and Washington, SESCO Management reports.

Colorado's rate went to $12 per hour, except in Denver, where the local minimum wage rate is now $12.85 an hour. Moreover, Denver's rate rises to $14.77 an hour on Jan. 1, 2021; and $15.87 an hour on Jan. 1, 2022.

Denver's rising minimum wage is a reason behind the Home Care Association of Colorado's request for historically large rate increases for the HCBS program, which is most affected by the rising wages. But HCAC also seeks significant rate increases for home-health nursing rates as well as LPN rates.
